Lahore is the second largest city of Pakistan after Karachi. It has a number of historical buildings which date to the Mogul and British era. The best time to visit Lahore is from December to February when the weather is cool, pleasant and sunny.
The climate of Lahore can be divided into the following broad categories:
Hot and Dry
This type of weather is found in the months of March and April. The air is dry, sky is clear and with no sea breeze to check the advance of the excessive heat (Lahore is located more than 1000 km from the nearest sea), the temperature rise sharply. The maximum temperature in mid March reaches 90 F (32 C) and by the middle of April temperatures up to 100 F can be expected. Due to clear atmosphere, nights however are cool with average temperature around 65 F (18 C). The rainfall is very scanty indeed. The total of the two months of March and April is less than 2 inches (50 mm).
Very Hot and Dry
The months of May and June are known for the ferocity of their heat. By the second week of May, it is usual for the temperature to reach 110 F ( 43 C ).The heat is oppressive, humidity very low with very hot and dry wind locally called loo blowing most of the time. June is still hotter with the high sometimes reaching to 119 F (48 C). However in June due to intense low pressure created by the excessive heat, sometimes a little moisture from Arabian Sea finds its way to this area and causes thundershowers which temporarily bring down the temperature.
Hot and Wet
The months of July to September bring rains from the Bay of Bengal which after traveling about 100 km over India reaches Pakistan and enter Lahore from the South-East. This rain system is called Monsoons. This is a regular feature of this part of the country. When it rains, the weather is cool and pleasant, other wise hot and sultry. Although the temperature comes down considerably from about 106 F ( 41 C ) just before the monsoons hits Lahore to about 95 F ( 35 C ) but the relatively humidity increases from less than 25 percent to more than 65 percent on arrival of monsoon.. The combination of high temperature with excessive humidity makes the weather very trying indeed. Moreover at times the rain falls with such a deluge that it inundates low lying area and people have to suffer great hardships So monsoon is a mixed blessing.
Warm and Dry
The months of October and November are warm and dry. Since the rain cease by about last week of September, the weather becomes dry again but this time it is not so hot. The dry continental air prevails over the region. The days are moderate to warm and nights are cool. The average high temperature is about 85 F (29 C) and at night due to dry air temperatures can fall to 53 F (12 C ) especially in late October or early November. There is practically no rain and this season is actually the driest season of all. October has one rainy day in two years and November has one rainy day in four years. The extreme dryness gives rise to general dustiness and haziness in which pollution is trapped. This is the reason that this season is responsible for the most incidences of common cold and other allergies.
Cool and Dry
December, January and February are the most pleasant of all the months of Lahore. In fact nothing more perfect can be imagined. The highs are around 68 F (20 C) and the lows around 41 F (6 C). The weather is cool, pleasant and very sunny. Occasionally, western disturbance- a rain bearing system which has its source in Mediterranean Sea affects this part of the country and causes some rain. But the rain neither is heavy nor prolonged. December has one rainy day each year and January and February both have two rain days each year. So generally the weather remains sunny, dry and invigorating. This is the best time to visit Lahore and one can have a look on the grand and awe-inspiring buildings belonging to the Mogul and the British Era for which Lahore is world famous.
